8 Smart Interview Questions to Anticipate

Whether you’re interviewing with a staffing agency recruiter or the facility you would like to work for you want to be prepared.  One way to prepare is to try an anticipate the questions you might be asked. 

A good way to get started is to think about what the recruiter or facility is trying to achieve.  Most likely they want to make sure you can do the job from a technical standpoint and that you have the soft skills to interact well with patients and fit into the organization’s culture. Here are some sample interview questions that may come up:

 

1. What are your strengths?

Keep your answer short and to the point.  Mention recent training in technology or the ability to thrive in a high case load environment for example.

 

2. How do your qualifications and work experience make you a good candidate for this job?

It’s best to answer this question by featuring your most relevant experience.  For example, if the job is in an EP lab at a large hospital system, highlight the experience that’s most similar.  If you worked in an EP lab prior, share that in your answer and provide examples of how your experience is a benefit to the organization.

 

3. What do you do to stay up-to-date on the latest treatments, techniques and technology?

This is a good time to share about the professional development courses you’ve completed, reading you do on your own, trade associations that you may be a member of and regularly attend and etc.

 

4. Why do you think you’re the best person for this job?

Recruiters and hiring managers want to know that you want the job.  This your time to sell yourself and really shine.  Your answer should feature your unique differentiators and how it will benefit the organization.  It may include attributes such as: 

  • Procedural capabilities
  • Personable and able to interact well with patients
  • Technical skills
  • Passion for healthcare and caring for others
  • Positive outlook
  • Desire to go the extra mile

 5. What do you consider your greatest accomplishment and why?

Share examples of new procedure you mastered and how it contributed to the team.  Or provide examples of how you served as a mentor in a coaching program for younger employees or managed a committee and etc. Always tie your accomplishment back to something that’s important to the hiring manager.

 

6. How to you respond to high-stress situations?

Acknowledge that this is part of the job and share a specific example of how you handle high stress. Maybe you prioritize, sleep on big decisions or try to achieve work balance so you’re always refreshed.

 

7. Do you consider yourself a good team player? Why?

It’s best to answer this question with what you enjoy about being in a team, what you contribute and why you think it’s important to work as a team.

 

8. Why do you want to work with us?

This demonstrates motivation.  It also gives you a chance to shine as you mention your company research and then reference how the organization’s mission/vision align with your own values.
